The First Aero Squadron was initially composed of five officers and twenty-one enlisted men who had been stationed at the Army's aviation school in College Park, Maryland.

- December 8, 1913 The 1st Provisional Aero Squadron is officially redesignated as the 1st Aero Squadron, the first US military unit specifically dedicated to aviation[1].
