71 Squadron was succeeded by 71 (Eagle) Squadron, a volunteer unit formed during World War II that served from just after the Battle of Britain until it was absorbed into the US Army Air Forces in September, 1942, and post-World War II by a newly created 71 Squadron that served during the 1950s.
