[edit] Biography

Leonino Da Zara received his pilot's license, Italian license No. 7, on August 17, 1910[1].

In January, 1911 Da Zara formed a group of civilian pilots into a "Corps of Aviators" that volunteered their services to the Italian Minister of War for use during the army's summer maneuvers. The offer was accepted and eight planes were used during the maneuvers for reconnaissance and liaison duties. The aviators' performance helped to convince the Italian General Staff to send aircraft along with the North African Expedition during the Italo-Turkish War[2].
