Eryomin joined the Red Army in 1931. In 1940 he graduated from the Kachinsk Military Aviation School[1].
During World War II, Eryomin completed a total of 342 combat sorties of which 117 were reconnaissance, and participated in 70 aerial engagements in which he shot down 8 enemy aircraft individually and 15 as part of a group. He was recommended for the title Hero of the Soviet Union in 1944 and again in 1945, but finally received the award only on May 5, 1990[1].
