Aleksandr Lapchinskii was one of the most notable of the pre-World War II Soviet airpower theorists. Lapchinskii joined the Red Army from the very beginning, and was an active participant in the civil war. He served as Chief of Staff of the Army Air Fleet and Chief of Staff of the Republic Air Fleet. After the civil war, Lapchinskii held teaching positions at the Frunze Military Academy and the Zhukovskii Military Air Academy[1].
Lapchinskii published several works on airpower-related topics during the interwar years, including Aviation Tactics (Taktika Aviatsii) in 1928, for which he won the Frunze Prize.
