  • June 17, 1861 Thaddeus Lowe ascends in the balloon Enterprise 500 feet above the Columbia Armory in Washington D.C., and uses telegraph equipment in the balloon to send the world's first air-to-ground telegram to President Abraham Lincoln[1].
