The Soviets had overwhelming numerical superiority in air forces for the battle[1], including:
- 2,318 fighters (organized in 21 fighter divisions)
- 1,744 ground attack aircraft (Il-2s, 14 divisions)
- 1,662 medium bombers (in 8 divisions under Front control plus 16 strategic divisions)
- 431 light night bombers (6 divisions)
- 179 reconnaissance aircraft
For a total of 6,334 aircraft.
