Operation Pointblank was the combined strategic bombing offensive launched by US and British bombers against German forces on the continent in preparation for the upcoming allied invasion.

  • October 14, 1943 The US Eighth Air Force launches Mission No. 115, a raid on the German city of Schweinfurt consisting of 291 B-17 bombers. Eighty-two of the 291 bombers in the force--more than 28% of the total--were lost.[1]
