Remarks: Operation Türkenkreuz was a German daylight bombing offensive against Great Britain conducted primarily by Gotha bombers during World War I


A total of 22 raids were conducted as part of Operation Türkenkreuz, which dropped a total of 186,830 lb (84,745 kg) of bombs with a loss of 61 aircraft[1].

  • May 25, 1917 Twenty-three German Gotha bombers are launched for a daylight raid on London ar part of Operation Türkenkreuz. Poor weather forced the bombers to divert from London to alternate targets, but the raid resulted in 95 deaths and 195 injuries[1].
  • June 13, 1917 German Gotha bombers participating in Operation Türkenkreuz successfully conduct a daylight attack against London for the first time[1].
  • May 19, 1918 German Gotha bombers launch the last and largest raid of Operation Türkenkreuz, a nighttime attack against London[1].
