The RAF Eagle Squadrons
The RAF Eagle Squadrons were fighter squadrons formed by the Royal Air Force during World War II and consisting mainly of volunteer American and Canadian pilots. The Eagle Squadrons were formed starting in late 1940 in response to pilot shortages caused by the Battle of Britain, and served until September, 1942 when they were absorbed into the 4th Fighter Group of the US Eighth Air Force[1].
Three Eagle Squadrons were created: 71 (Eagle) Squadron, 121 (Eagle) Squadron, and 133 (Eagle) Squadron.
