Rumpler started his career at the Daimler Motor Company (Daimler-Motorengesellschaft) in Marienfelde, just outside of Berlin, Germany. He designed a four cylinder, water-cooled engine named the "Aeolus"[1].
In 1908 Rumpler founded an airplane company and by June, 1910 had signed a contract with Igo Etrich to produce a version of Etrich's Taube ("Dove") airplane. The result was known as the "Rumpler-Taube" and was one of the most famous pre-war designs[1].
