Sergeev studied aviation motors and flight theory at the Petrograd Polytechnic Institute, and then attended the Sevastopol Aviation School[1][2].
From December, 1917 to May, 1918 he was a member of the All-Russia Collegium for Direction of the Air Forces of the Old Army. Later he served as Commissar of the air forces, Chief Commissar of Aviation on the Eastern front, and Chief of Field Aviation and Aeronautics[3] under the Field Headquarters of the Revolutionary Military Council[1].
After reorganization of the air forces, Sergeev served as Chief of Staff of the air forces, then Assistant Commander for Land Aviation (March 1920-February 1921), and ultimately Commander of the air forces (February 1921-October 1922)[1].
He attended the Zhukovskii Military Academy, graduating in 1926. After graduation he worked abroad[1].
By 1933 Sergeev had returned to the Soviet Union and was appointed Chief of Transport Aviation and Deputy Commander of the Civil Air Fleet. He perished in a plane crash later that year[1].
