Stroev served as commander of aviation for the Red Army's First Cavalry Army during the Russian Civil War^[1].

Stroev was promoted to the rank of Maj. Gen. on June 4, 1940^[2].

He served as an instructor in Air Tactics at the Zhukovskii Military Air Academy starting in 1923^[3].
