Stroev served as commander of aviation for the Red Army's First Cavalry Army during the Russian Civil War[1].
Stroev was promoted to the rank of Maj. Gen. on June 4, 1940[2].
He served as an instructor in Air Tactics at the Zhukovskii Military Air Academy starting in 1923[3].
