From 1938-39, Wilson served as Director of Air Tactics and Strategy, and Head of the Air Corps Tactical School[1].

In 1940, Wilson was involved in the pre-war planning for the expansion of the Air Corps[1].

In 1942, he began serving as Chief of Personnel Division (G-1) on the War Department General Staff[1].

Wilson served during World War II as Chief of Staff for the Fifth Air Force[1].

Wilson retired from the US Air Force in 1947, at the rank of Maj. Gen.[1].
