Zalevskii participated in battles with the Basmachi rebels, for which he was awarded an Order of the Red Banner[1].
In 1924, Zalevskii participated in a long-distance flight of R-1 aircraft from Termez to Kabul, the first in Soviet history to overfly the Hindukush mountains at an altitude of 7000 meters[1].
From 1924 to 1927, Zalevskii studied at the Advanced Pilots School[1].
In 1927, he became commander of a squadron at the Air Force Scientific Testing Institute (NII). He later became commander of the 4th Department at NII[1].
Zalevskii participated in testing of the "Zveno" flying aircraft carrier concept. He flew in the Zveno-1 test flight on December 3, 1931 (in a TB-1 carrying two I-4 fighters), and piloted a TB-3 in the Zveno-2 flights of August, 1934, and the Zveno flights of November, 1935[1].
In 1938, Zalevskii served as commander of the Alma-Ata air base and the Alma-Ata to Lanchow air route, through which Soviet support for China flowed[1].
Zalevskii was arrested on May 18, 1941, and convicted on May 9, 1942 to five years imprisonment. He died in prison in 1943[1].
